Manuscript Submission Guidelines

The Harvard Common Press is a small, independent publisher of quality trade books. We specialize in cookbooks and parenting/childcare books. Authors interested in publishing with The Harvard Common Press are asked to submit the following:

  • a chapter-by-chapter outline of the proposed book
  • an introduction and two complete sample chapters (for cookbooks, please include a recipe list and sample recipes)
  • a résumé or brief personal history
  • any current or planned marketing and sales platforms you may have
  • an evaluation of competitive titles and how they relate to the proposed book

Submissions should be typed, double-spaced, on a standard typewriter, word processor, or computer, but please avoid dot-matrix printers. Due to the large number of submissions we receive, we will be able to respond to your proposal only if we are interested in publishing your book.

Please send submissions to:

The Harvard Common Press
Attn: Submissions
535 Albany Street, 5th Floor
Boston, MA 02118

Potential authors may also submit a query letter or e-mail of no more than 300 words, rather than a full proposal; if interested, we will ask to see a proposal. Queries and questions may be sent via e-mail to editorial@harvardcommonpress.com. We will not consider e-mail attachments containing proposals. No phone calls, please.
