A big week for coffee drinkers!

Coffee is hitting the news big time this week!

A study was published Monday in the Archives of Internal Medicine stating that women who drink caffeinated coffee are less likely to become depressed, and the risk goes down the more they drink. According to the study, women who average two or three cups a day were 15% less likely to develop depression.

And if that wasn’t enough reason for me to have a second cup of coffee today, then the fact that September 29 is National Coffee Day sure was!

7-Eleven offered free coffee this morning from 7 until 11 am in honor of National [cofFree] Day, and Dunkin’ Donuts is offering 50-cent medium hot and iced coffees all day. Think that means I’ll be getting my afternoon fix with them, but my morning cup I made here…

Working for a cookbook publisher, I prefer a lot of my meals homemade and my drinks home-mixed. But when it comes to caffeine, I’m very appreciative of our office’s Keurig coffee machine. My K-Cup of choice this morning? Why Pumpkin Spice of course:

No better way to ring in fall!

So that takes care of my morning and afternoon coffee, and for my evening cup, I’ll be relaxing with a yummy mug of Killer Iced Coffee (not as dangerous as it sounds!), using a recipe by Dinah Corley, author of our upcoming book Gourmet Gifts.

Yummly also featured a great round-up today of ways to get your caffeine fix.

Where do you get your coffee? Do you stick with traditional Starbucks and Dunks or a local neighborhood shop? Or do you make your own? And if you’re a Keurig user, let me know what your favorite K-Cup varieties are– I’m in need of some tasty suggestions!

Happy National Coffee Day to all, enjoy!

We got a built in Miele a couple years ago. It was the best investment we made during our kitchen renovation!

It seems like every day is National Coffee Day in my world! I just moved back to New England from San Francisco, and I’ve been having fun exploring new places and going back to my old haunts. I’ve had good cups the past few days at Clover in Harvard Square (they were pouring Speedwell), Diesel in Davis, and the house blend at Formaggio Kitchen.

[...] That (very hypothetical) question rests permanently in the back of my mind. It nags me a little more loudly each summer, when day trips to Newport and Provincetown mean chowder and lobster rolls from weathered clam shacks, and again in the fall, when pumpkin starts popping up in everything (right down to our office’s Keurig pods).
