Manuscript Submission Guidelines

The Harvard Common Press is a small, independent publisher of quality trade books.  We specialize in cookbooks and parenting/childcare books. Authors interested in publishing with The Harvard Common Press are asked to submit the following:

• a chapter-by-chapter outline of the proposed book
• an introduction and two complete sample chapters (for cookbooks, please include a recipe list and sample recipes)
• a résumé or brief personal history
• any current or planned marketing and sales platforms you
may have
• an evaluation of competitive titles and how they relate to the proposed book

Submissions should be typed, double-spaced, on a standard typewriter, word processor, or computer, but please avoid dot-matrix printers. We will return cookbook and parenting/childcare submissions not suited to our list if a self-addressed stamped envelope is provided.

Potential authors may also submit a query letter or e-mail of no more than 300 words, rather than a full proposal; if interested, we will ask to see a proposal. Queries and questions may be sent via e-mail to . We will not consider e-mail attachments containing proposals. No phone calls, please.
