Easy Southern-Style Baked Beans
Wednesday June 29, 2011Here’s a sweeter-style baked bean recipe that bakes lower and slower. These beans could also be put in the smoker to smoke-cook for 3 hours.
SERVES 8
Ingredients
Three 15-ounce cans pork and beans
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
3/4 cup ketchup
3/4 cup cola
1 medium-size onion, diced
2 teaspoons dry mustard
6 to 8 slices bacon
Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 300°F.
2. In a large bowl, combine the beans, brown sugar, ketchup, cola, onion, and mustard. Spread the beans in a 13 x 9-inch baking dish and lay the bacon slices over the top. Bake until the beans are bubbling and the bacon is thoroughly cooked, about 1 1/2 hours.
