Football Punch
Saturday, February 6, 2010It’s Super Bowl Sunday, and the whole mishpucha is coming over to watch the big game. Don’t just set out a bowl of chips… greet your guests with a bowl full of Football Punch! This recipe is taken from party host extraordinaire A.J. Rathbun‘s latest book, Dark Spirits.
The recipe is below, followed by a video in which the author and his friends show you how it’s done:
Football Punch
Are you ready for some Football Punch? Probably not, I suppose, as fall’s favorite sport tends toward beer association and not cocktail connections. Now, beerheads, don’t get up in arms (I readily down a cold beer, especially on hot days), but I believe that this traditional beer-football duo is, well, a bit dull (please don’t tackle me yet) when done over and over. Football fanatics, make your pigskin bash stand out from packed crowds, and trust me—you’ll...
Red Cross Asks Mothers to Stop Donating Breastmilk to Haiti
Monday, February 1, 2010
In recent weeks, breastfeeding advocates and parenting blogs have been encouraging mothers to donate their breast milk to mothers and infants in Haiti who are in desperate need. A flood of breast milk donations have been made and sent to Haiti, but unfortunately they aren’t being used. “Tell them not to send it,” said Eric Porterfield, a spokesman for the American Red Cross, to reporters from MSNBC. “I’m 100 percent sure we didn’t ask for that.” Pauline Sakamoto, president of The Human Milk Banking Association of North America, told Time Magazine that she understands the primal urge that would cause a mother to want to donate her milk: “You want to feed those babies when you see those pictures out there,” she says “but there is no freezer space and no electricity.”
While these generous and very personal donations are being made with the best intention for Haitian mothers in need,...
Essay from “Unbuttoned” Featured in “Best Sex Writing 2010″ Anthology!
Thursday, January 14, 2010
Rachel Sarah’s essay “SW(Lactating)F Seeking Sex With No Strings Attached” stirred up plenty of controversy when it was first published in HCP’s breastfeeding memoir collection Unbuttoned, then re-published at Salon.com. People reacted strongly to the author’s tale of her date with a man who, as she discovered, had a lactation fetish.
Now, that essay is anthologized in the latest volume of Rachel Kramer Bussel‘s excellent Best Sex Writing series. The book also includes thought-provoking and/or erotic writing by Paul Krassner, Betty Dodson, Kirk Reed, Chris Hall, and a provocative (to say the least) piece by Mollena Williams about race and BDSM that is bound to generate seriously intense debate. If breast milk got you bent out of shape, that’s nothing compared to this one.
