Friday, February 3, 2012

With only two days until the big game, it’s time to start finalizing those menu plans (because no one wants to miss a play, and especially not a commercial, to go pick up pizza). In honor of the brewing rivalry between the Pats and the Giants, we’re bringing you two installments of best-of-the-web features today, the first by our resident New York fan (booooo!)…

As tensions run high in the HCP office over who will win the Superbowl, the one thing that we can all agree on is– you guessed it– food! With the big game only a few days away, the topic of food (and football, I suppose) is on all of our minds.  Check out these bloggers for fun and yummy game day recipes that put a new twist on some classic Superbowl Sunday snacks and treats.

A Healthy Superbowl Sunday?

Posted by Nora

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

I don’t always watch the Superbowl, but when I do it’s only because the Patriots are playing! On Sunday I’ll make the hour-long trek out of the city to my south shore Massachusetts hometown to watch the game with my Patriots-enthusiast-filled family. I’m already doubling up on gym time in preparation for the epic feast that will be going down in my house.

When I asked my mom what I should bring, she replied with “something healthy, since no one else will, and I have my Weight Watchers meeting on Monday!”

Something healthy?! But… but… it’s the Superbowl! It’s the one time of year when I might actually feel guilty for eating healthy. If the Patriots happen to lose, it could be because we were eating healthy while rooting them on! Just not natural.

Sports? Not really my thing.  The Superbowl? Always my thing– at least for the food!  Ever since my childhood days of huddling around the television with my family on Superbowl Sunday, the thing I looked forward to most was helping my mom carve out the “guts” of a pumpernickel loaf for her spinach artichoke dip.

Now that I live on my own and my childhood passion for hallowing out the center of pumpernickel bread is long gone, I wanted to make a dip for an upcoming Superbowl...

The 2012 food blog conference circuit is in full swing. Bloggers are sprawling out from state-to-state, blogging (and eating) their way across the country en masse. It’s quite a feat, and one that is shaping up to be even more robust than 2011. For our part at Harvard Common Press, our active involvement in that category of conference life began this past weekend at Food Blog South in Birmingham, AL.

This was actually my first time in BHAM (or The Birm, as I’ve been calling it), and I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of food on offer throughout the area. For a complete run-down of all the eating and drinking that The Birm has to offer, check out the concurrent blog post running here.

Food Blog South is in its second year and its popularity within the food blogging community is evident in the attendance from bloggers across the food community. Sitting...
