Recipe of the Day:

Honeydew-Mint Mist

Monday March 15, 2010

Continuing our excerpts from Cool Water s, in appreciation of the start of warm weather… though, of course, here in Massachusetts we could always get one last surprise snowstorm. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen, and drink some Honeydew-Mint Mist in anticipation of the sunshine ahead.

This refreshing beverage is inspired by agua de melón, a traditional Mexican drink, but Cool Waters has a healthier version (minus the refined white sugar). Mint adds a clean, herbal note to the sweet flavor of the honeydew.

Honeydew-Mint Mist

1 cup ripe honeydew melon chunks (about 1/4 melon)
15 large, fresh mint leaves
4 cups chilled still water

1. Puree all the ingredients together in a blender.

2. Pour through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher. Chill well before serving.

Prep time: 10 minutes
Yield: 4 servings

Food Pairings: Tacos, shellfish, poultry, spicy foods
Tip: To find perfectly ripe honeydew, simply smell the stem end of the fruit (this end has a bigger circular blemish, distinguishing it from the blossom end). If you smell fresh, ripe melon, then it’s ready for use.
