For those of you in the Boston area, HCP Delivers would like to draw your attention to an art exhibit called Mothers Expressing: Sharing the Work, by Amber Davis Tourlentes and Nita Sturiale that is all about working motherhood. It happens to take place at one of our favorite local galleries, AXIOM Center for New Media, located in beautiful Jamaica Plain, MA.
AXIOM is holding a “tea talk” with two experts, a lactation consultant and a sociologist from Brandeis University, to discuss the issues surrounding the art on Saturday, October 24th, at 4:00 pm. Here’s the gallery’s text about the event:
We’ve invited two experts, Ana Villalobos, Brandeis sociologist, and Jenny Weaver, lactation consultant, to bring together knowledge around the work and physiology of caretaking. Come ask questions, propose ideas, and share anecdotes about care-taking in our current economic culture. How can we shape a new economic model that is informed by gift economy ideals?
Ana Villalobos received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and is currently a visiting research associate at Brandeis University. Ana’s research and teaching focus on motherhood, and attempt to bring to light the often hidden connections between large-scale social forces and personal experience.
Jenny Weaver has been an OB/GYN RN for more than 20 years. She has worked at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
Please RSVP to info@visiblelabor.com
The talk is free and open to the public, just be sure to RSVP. AXIOM Center for New and Experimental Media is located at 141 Green Street, in the Green Street T Station on the Orange Line. For more information, please call Nick Marmor at 516-987-6561 or visit www.axiomart.org
